Edit subtitles in existing DCP
« on: November 17, 2016, 04:49:46 AM »
Hi,
Is it possible to edit a certain subtitle in an existing DCP (interOp, unencrypted) I know that i'ts not directly possible to edit the subtitle xml and save: the hash check will fail.
Could I manually update the hashes in the cpl, pkl (?) so that everything is OK?
Or is the only possibility to create a supplemental DCP?
Thank you

Julius

Hello vintvolt,

theoretically it is possible, unless the DCP is signed or encrypted.
You will have to edit the hash values manually.
Then it should work.

Best regards,

Yes, it is possible. You would need to extract the subtitles first. If its XML text, then editing it would be simpler. If its an image sequence subtitle, then you would need to OCR after extracting.

Then once you are done editing your subtitles, you would need to package them in, preferrably as a text XML, since PNG subs will add more steps. Repackaging should be possible without having to re-encode the film.

If you want you can send me the subtitle.xml with your changes applied, plus the ASSETMAP and PKL file of your DCP and I'll make the changes for you.
