Nikon D810 video color space
« on: July 14, 2016, 07:03:43 PM »
Hi all, I'm in the process of color grading a short film shot on a Nikon D810 (compressed, not HDMI), and am seeking to understand the data I'm starting with. in the attached image from MediaInfo, you can see much of the relevant data about the data in the MOV container.

I've posed this question to Nikon directly, but thought someone here might be able to shed some light as well. Of interest to me is what data format the color is actually in, so I know how, or if, to transform it when importing it into my color grading suite (Speedgrade CS6, well, yeah, via Pr). The image shows the Color space as YUV, but then lists Rec709 as the Color Primaries, but Rec 601 as the Matrix coefficients. Also, I assume 'Full Range' means that the color data runs the full scale of 0-256 (not 16-234, or whatever). Then there's the 'transfer_coefficients_original' line that lists BT.470 System M?

Anybody have any insight they might share as to what this really means?

Cheers,
Shane
